Patient and Family Advisory Councils

Our partnership with patients and families ensures that the patient voice is embedded in every aspect of our delivery of care.

The Patient and Family Advisory Council (PFAC) is composed of a group of patients who volunteer their time to engage with Alameda Health System (AHS) staff and providers sharing their experiences and perspectives about the care and service they receive in our system. Using a collaborative approach, the goal is to improve the quality and service delivery for patients, their families, and visitors.

AHS has established PFACs that meets monthly. Members may attend additional meetings to listen, speak, advise, consult, learn, and contribute.

PFAC members serve as advisors who:

  • Enhance the quality and safety of the care we deliver
  • Help us gain a mutual understanding of issues or concerns that patients have
  • Inform staff about opportunities for improving the patient care experience

The PFAC is important because it:

  • Elevates patient and family voices to shape and enhance the health care journey
  • Provides a platform where patients, families and providers can co-design programs that are safer, more effective, and compassionate
  • Emphasizes the collective power of patients, families, and health care professionals to improve patient and family care experiences and health outcomes
