Natalie Fan

Clinical Oncology Pharmacist
Alameda Health System

I did my pharmacy residency here at the ag亚游官网 ag亚游官网 Highland Hospital Campus. I decided to stay here and work because of the people—the patients, physicians, nurses, everybody.

As soon as I finished residency, Highland offered me a part-time position in oncology, which eventually turned into a full-time position. I immediately fell in love with working with our oncology patients. I’ve been doing this work for 12 years.

What is most meaningful to me when treating oncology patients is the ability to help them get the care they need, regardless of insurance. The Breast Clinic provides amazing care to our patients, and they don’t necessarily have to worry about whether they can pay for their medications or treatment, because we will help them.

I love helping patients acquire the medications they need, feel more comfortable about their medications, and show them how to take them properly, because a lot of the side effects can be scary.

It can be so difficult to navigate health care, so it’s easy to get lost in the system, even for people who have some experience in health care. Our Navigation Program guides patients to the areas that they need in order to get proper care.

We at Alameda Health System are here to support patients the best way we can, in any way we can. Whether that is with payment or side effects or getting their medications in a timely manner, we’re here to help.

This job has given me perspective on how valuable each life is and how to be grateful for what we have. I feel so fortunate to be given the chance to work with our patients here at Alameda Health System.
